Hospital Beds

Hospital Beds
Hospital beds are the most important piece of furniture that is needed for the disabled person. There are many styles and options to address the different problems. From an exceptionally low bed in height for special needs, to a bed that with the push of a button will be like sitting in a recliner chair, the more options the more expensive the bed will become.

We understand that when families need special equipment for their loved ones, price is the key factor. Power-Pedic has researched the market and has the proper bed for your needs and have all different price ranges for you to choose from.

You need to talk to us, as you need to be educated in what is available and what is really necessary. We are here to help you through this learning process.

A bed is just the beginning, you then will need the proper mattress to work properly with the bed. Can the person turn by themselves? Do they have bed sores? How much time do they spend in bed? Their weight and height is a key factor.

This will be the most important phone call you will make. The Internet is a wonderful eye opener but you still need an Equipment Specialist to work with you so you end up with the proper equipment.

Hospital Bed Rentals comes in your choice of 2 motor semi-electric or 3 motor fully electric Hi-Lo. Semi-Electric Hospital Beds electric adjust your back and your legs to any position you desire; the 3 motor fully electric Hi-Lo Hospital Beds also allow you to electrically elevate the entire bed up and down.

You may need the fully electric High-Low Hospital Bed Rental if you have difficulty getting in and out of bed; or if you are transferring in and out of a wheelchair; or if you are under nurses care (the nurse may need to get you higher so it is easier for her to assist the patient in moving around on the hospital bed).

There are also LOW Hospital Bed Rentals. The LOW Hospital Beds may be useful to those who may fall out of bed. Many alzheimer patients need the optional LOW Hospital bed.

If you need a bed to go either very LOW or very HIGH, let us know what your Hospital Rental preferences are.

Half Rails are usually standard on a hospital bed rentals. Some people prefer the full rails. Side rails are designed to help the patient move around in the bed by themselves, or to help them get out of bed, or to even help them stay in bed. Let us know your preferences.

Some Hospital Beds come available 4" longer than the extra long 80"; i.e. 84". If someone is 6.1" and taller we would recommend to look at the 36" x 84" long beds.

WIDE Hospital Bed Rentals are available for those who are HEAVY or just prefer a bigger bed. A standard hospital bed, whether semi or fully electric is 36" wide (that is 2" less wide than a standard twinsize bed). Adjustable Bed Rentals are a little different than Hospital Bed Rentals in the facts that they look almost EXACTLY like a regular bed, without the "cot-spring" hospital bed look. Adjustable Beds moreover can be made in ANY Bed Size.

Bariatric WIDE Beds come 48" wide. But, some people want the Full or Regular or Double Size - which is 53" wide; and others want the Queen - which is 60" wide. The FULL or QUEEN size hospital bed rentals are available in 3 motor versions too. Many of these beds look much better than standard Hospital Beds.

A standard hospital bed rental usually has a 300 pound weight capability. But people who weigh over 250 pounds probably would NOT like the 36" standard width of a hospital bed.

Medicare only really pays for the standard 2 motor semi electric hospital bed. You have to have special reasons to get Medicare to pay for a WIDER bed. Please call if you need MEDICARE assistance (800)477-0248.

Bariatric WIDE Hospital Bed Rentals are available in models that have a 450, 650 and 1000 pound weight capacity. We are Bariatric Bed Specialists.

Standard Hospital Bed Rentals come with your choice of very basic, vinyl covered foam mattresses or innerspring mattress. They come in one firmness, FIRM. The standard Hospital Bed Mattress is really designed for rentals, so they can easily be cleaned between patients. We offer the WORLD'S best selection of alternative to the standard mattresses; including our own Electropedic Adjustable Bed mattresses - that are designed for a lifetime of use.

If you are disabled or handicapped, there is a market for medical hospital beds, designed to keep you both in health and in comfort. We are also Specialists in this field, please call (800)477-0248. Again, as a Medically Accredited Company, it is VERY IMPORTANT for us to understand the FACTORS that will lead to your 100% Satisfaction, which is our First and Foremost Concern.

There is a whole Medical Field in Medical Mattresses for those who are handicapped, disabled or very overweight.

As the Electropedic Adjustable Bed Mattress Factory, we MAKE the best selection of Orthopedic-Innerspring Mattresses; Latex Foam (which is our FAVORITE!), Tempur-pedic Memory Foam and Comfortaire Air Mattresses. Our Innerspring and Latex foam Mattresses come in several different models; and four different mattress firmnesses: Soft, Regular Firm, Extra Firm and Ultra Firm.

We sell a lot of mattresses from Blue Chip and Span America for those who are disabled and handicapped. We have made "Your Comfort Is Everything!" our only business since 1964, so we know by asking the IMPORTANT questions will lead to your SATISFACTION.

Please call the most trusted name in Electric Home Care Products. We have an A Rating with the BBB, so we also take care of any service problems after the sale too. We know our success if BUILT upon Customer Satisfaction. We only do one thing and it is for you.

For any item to be covered by Medicare, it must 1) be eligible for a defined Medicare benefit category, 2) be reasonable and necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of illness or injury or to improve the functioning of a malformed body member, and 3) meet all other applicable Medicare statutory and regulatory requirements.

Indications and Limitations of Coverage and/or Medical Necessity

For any item to be covered by Medicare, it must 1) be eligible for a defined Medicare benefit category, 2) be reasonable and necessary for the diagnosis or treatment of illness or injury or to improve the functioning of a malformed body member, and 3) meet all other applicable Medicare statutory and regulatory requirements. For the items addressed in this medical policy, the criteria for "reasonable and necessary" are defined by the following indications and limitations of coverage and/or medical necessity.

For an item to be covered by Medicare a written signed and dated order must be received by the supplier before a claim is submitted. If the supplier bills for an item addressed in this policy without first receiving the completed order, the item will be denied as not medically necessary.

A fixed height hospital bed is covered if one or more of the following criteria (1-4) are met:

The patient has a medical condition which requires positioning of the body in ways not feasible with an ordinary bed. Elevation of the head/upper body less than 30 degrees does not usually require the use of a hospital bed, or The patient requires positioning of the body in ways not feasible with an ordinary bed in order to alleviate pain, or The patient requires the head of the bed to be elevated more than 30 degrees most of the time due to congestive heart failure, chronic pulmonary disease, or problems with aspiration. Pillows or wedges must have been considered and ruled out, or The patient requires traction equipment, which can only be attached to a hospital bed.

A variable height hospital bed is covered if the patient meets one of the criteria for a fixed height hospital bed and requires a bed height different than a fixed height hospital bed to permit transfers to chair, wheelchair or standing position.

A semi-electric hospital bed is covered if the patient meets one of the criteria for a fixed height bed and requires frequent changes in body position and/or has an immediate need for a change in body position.

A heavy duty extra wide hospital bed is covered if the patient meets one of the criteria for a fixed height hospital bed and the patient's weight is more than 350 pounds, but does not exceed 600 pounds.

An extra heavy-duty hospital bed is covered if the patient meets one of the criteria for a hospital bed and the patient's weight exceeds 600 pounds.

A total electric hospital bed is not covered; the height adjustment feature is a convenience feature. Total electric beds will be paid as the least costly medically appropriate alternative for the comparable semi-electric bed.

For any of the above hospital beds, if documentation does not support the medical necessity of the type of bed billed, payment will be based on the allowance for the least costly medically appropriate alternative.

If the patient does not meet any of the coverage criteria for any type of hospital bed it will be denied as not medically necessary.
